POVERELLO NON-PROFIT CENTER | Fort Lauderdale, FL

Poverello Non-Profit Center provides over 1 million meals annually to members of the community living with HIV/AIDS.  While evaluating this site for relocation, Joan provided design guidance on site layout and circulation including routing of food delivery trucks and member arrivals.  The roof was targeted for a green roof and event space.  Several sponsorship opportunities were outlined, from a memorial wall with names of donors or loved ones that doubled to screen the main entrance from the loading dock, to the roof garden with a courtyard fountain and plaque.  In addition to the green roof, the sustainable design in this project manifested in the stormwater management in the parking lot, with bioswales and rain gardens.  By adding a glass staircase and exterior signage to the administration offices, Joan brought daylight into the interior as well as an architectural element visible from the road to identify the Center in the community. Joan was excited to be able to contribute to the LGBTQ community in the city she called home at the time.
