Joan Piccalo - My Work - Sustainable - Crosswaters Ecolodge
CROSSWATERS ECOLODGE | Guanzhou, China

Nankun Mountain Reserve has all of the ingredients of an authentic ecotourism experience - indigenous plants, animals, and the Keija people that live in the reserve, and most importantly a conscientious developer. The Crosswaters Ecolodge was designed and built with a detailed analysis and design process, implementing a quadruple bottom line approach that includes the spiritual component in the form of Feng Shui. Local materials and cultural icons were used to emphasize the sense of place, including rammed earth walls, bamboo architecture, recycled clay tile roofs, and reused railroad ties for boardwalks. Joan assisted during the Construction Document phase of design. EDSA was the prime.
